 Hybrid Vehicles required a smog certification since March 26, 2015. 

STAR STATIONS can test any and ALL vehicles -- Including "gross polluters". Read the notice you received from the DMV. If it says "STAR STATION" -- then your vehicle is required to be taken to a STAR CERTIFIED smog station. If a DMV notice makes no mention of a STAR STATION, then the vehicle can be taken to any state licensed STAR CERTIFIED SMOG STATION, TEST ONLY STATION, or TEST & REPAIR station. 

 Smog test pricing is not regulated by the state -- however, the cost of the Certificate of Compliance is mandated by the State to be $8.25 and will not vary. Normally, smog check pricing will include the smog inspection and certificate cost (pass through). When your vehicle passes, the Smog Certificate is transmitted electronically to the DMV.

 In order to complete your registration, the vehicles must pass Smog Check. If your vehicle unfortunately failed, it could be repaired at any state-licensed Repair shop. However, please check online if you are eligible for Consumer Assistance Program, before going to any repair shop.
